The BeeGees once sang, “It’s only words, words are all I have, to take your heart away”. While I'm more comfortable quoting Atif Aslam than the BeeGees, the words still ring true to me.
As you may already know, I've been engaged for around 7 months now, and have been planning my wedding for about 30 x that amount of time. I've been planning my wedding since forever. Every time I heard a song I wanted to walk down the aisle to, or saw a pic of the exact mehndi pattern I'd supposedly want, or tried a new favourite dish that I had to serve at my non-existant sangeet- I noted that ish down.
Even if it was just in a little corner of my pinterest-styled brain, that wedding note was tucked right in there. Oh trust me, I did eventually get to the wonder of Pinterest boards, with my own 'secret' wedding board being collated for years, but I'm also that chick who had a folder of screenshots saved on her phone and an album of sangeet songs ready for when my DDLJ ka Raj would decide to arrive.
As much as I had planned and 'pinterested', nothing could have prepared me for real life wedding planning. Especially real life wedding planning when you're sitting in Johannesburg and your mandap is 6 hours away in Durban. I've been taking it a day at a time, taking small small bites out of the massive workload that I have to plan #atrulyuriwedding event. But lets be honest, wedding planning is a behnchod.
I've googled the life out of durban weddings / indian weddings / wedding inspo etc etc ad nauseum and yet I've not found one helpful guide for poor little indian girls who are planning their weddings in Durban. SO. I'm noting down my journey in the hopes that some day some how, it will prevent you from being that Bollywood Bridezilla.
But then again, folks, I only have my words. The rest is up to you <3
